When world leaders signed off on Donald Trump’s International Board of Peace to oversee Gaza, dystopian fiction writers despaired. Who could write anything worse?  The only place to go at a moment when reality bests horror is to our imaginations. Here is my preliminary proposal for an International Board of Peace.  These are complicated people from around the world who have the background, conviction, history, and vision to rebuild and repair Gaza, and beyond.

Plestia Alaqad: the young Palestinian journalist and poet, author of The Eyes of Gaza, now living in  Australia,

Bisan Owda journalist and youth climate activist in Gaza.

Francesca Albanese, United Nations Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Italy.

Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza,  Judge on the ICC, Peru,

Naomi Klein, author, filmmaker, and activist, Canada.

Naledi Pandor:  former Minister of  International Relations and Cooperation, South Africa

Angela Davis, lifelong activist, scholar, and author, United States

Phyllis Bennis, Institute for Policy Studies and Transnational Institute, United States and the Netherlands

Greta Thunberg, climate activist and Flotilla organizer and participant. Sweden

Francia Marquez, Vice President, Colombia

 Lilian Borges, Social Worker, Brazil

Sonja Linden: writer and daughter of Holocaust survivors, England

Rashida Tlaib Palestinian American lawyer and Congresswoman, United States.

Arundhati Roy, writer and activist, India.

Toshiyuki Mimaki, Hiroshima survivor, Co-chair of Nihon Hidankyo, Japan

Hanan Ashrawi, Palestinian Liberation Organization and United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD), in England

I think they could do a better job than the people Donald Trump has chosen. What do you think? Who would you choose?  I’ll add your ideas in an addendum.
